Don’t get me wrong it was funny and I did not take offence the first few times as I am open minded and dont mind racial banter every now and then, but then it started happening nearly everday for a whole month infront of so many people and infront of complete strangers, and it would have put me in a very weird situation had I challenged her or said anything as she was adored by everybody. to tell people what is classed as racism and what is not. I find this hard to believe. I served in the Trust Me I’m A Cricketer Shirt in other words I will buy this army from 2005-2010, but racism, and particular, homophobia was omnipresent in my time in the military. Much to my shame, I joined in, to fit in as much as anything, something I’m deeply ashamed of now. But if when you were in the RAF was anything like what the Army was like when I was in, you’d have seen racism and intolerance everywhere. i am not for one minute saying it does not exist.
